For doing the postgraduate courses in history, a candidate is required to pass the graduation level exam in the concerned field. For many of the course there is minimum age requirement of 21 years. There is no maximum age to pursue these courses in most institutes. Those who wish to go for higher studies in History can opt for the research programmes. The research courses include M.Phil and PhD programmes. For many of the courses the candidates will be required to appear for entrance exams.

The professionals who complete the programme from recognized Universities or colleges can earn good remuneration. The scale of pay will be according to their caliber and the percentage acquired in the qualifying exam. The Union Public Service Commission conducts various tests to recruit candidates for the National Archives jobs. Professionals after completion of the course can expect salaries of Rs.15000/- and above per month in the initial stage itself. The candidates also have the option to pursue their career abroad.
