The TamilNadu Dr. MGR Medical University B.Sc in Nursing-1st Year Nursing Foundation Papers 

B.Sc in Nursing is one of the undergraduate medical courses offered by the institute. It takes 4 years to get the degree with practical sessions included. Nursing foundation is an application based paper where apart from 200 hours of lab session 550 hours of clinical work is also taught.
Syllabus of examination:
The foundation paper has 14 units which helps the student to understand ‘Supervised Clinical settings’ the philosophy behind it, theories and objectives related to it. The topics are health and illness, nursing as a profession, procedures of admission and discharge, reporting and communicating to family and all kinds of nursing duties.
Time Duration:
2 written examinations of 3 hours each are conducted. One is of 50marks for internal assessment and the other is of 100 marks for external evaluation.
Division of the paper:
In each of the paper there are three sets of question namely short answer which is of 2 marks, short note of 5 marks and the essay type questions are for 15 marks. In the 100 marks paper there are 10 short answer types question, 10 short note type and 2 essay questions. The internal evaluation exam of 50 marks has half the number of question of each type. One must score at least 50% to pass the nursing foundation paper.
